A ponytail is the perfect go-to style for busy mums on the run, and it just happens to be this season’s biggest (and easiest) hair trend! Here’s how the stars rock the look.

Low sleek pony

To get winter’s on-trend look, make sure your hair is poker straight, then comb to the nape and secure with a hair tie. Smoothe over with a little gloss for a sleek finish. Ramp up the glamour by wrapping a section of hair around the ponytail to hide the elastic, just like Emma Roberts has here.

Messy mid pony

A saviour for bad hair days, this style looks best when a tad rough around the edges. Spritz dry shampoo onto roots to freshen and give a matte finish or use texturising spray for tousled definition. Back-comb a little at the crown, then use your fingers to pull hair into a medium-height ponytail. Gently pull apart the bottom layers of the ponytail to tighten it at the base and push it slightly higher up the head.

Sectioned pony

Gather the top third of your hair into a ponytail and secure. Gather another third of your hair and secure into a ponytail along with the first ponytail. Repeat until you have three connected ponytails, and pull each one until it bulges. Finish with styling spray – and start turning heads.

Side pony

Use a tail comb to create a deep side part (trace a line with your comb from the highest point of your eyebrow and start the part there). Gather hair low, to one side, and secure. If you’re hair isn’t naturally wavy, add waves with a curling wand and work a little product through the tail for added texture before swishing the ponytail over your shoulder.
