Warm, soft and luxurious fur – both real and faux – is definitely making its mark as a major trend for winter. And with a bit of guidance, this luxe look is easier than ever to wear.

For those new to the game, a fur vest is your best starting point. Vests are incredibly versatile, whether worn for a casual-lunch look with jeans and boots, or glammed-up over a mid-length dress with stilettos.

For a fully-fledged fur look there are some great colours and patterns out there. And, of course, there’s the classic mink-look coat – a timeless addition to any wardrobe.

But with such a statement piece there are a few key rules to keep in mind. Firstly, it’s best to keep the rest of your look simple. Don’t go overboard with fur or wear too many loud pieces at once. Mix glam items with something more edgy or casual. Fur is a very grandiose material, but you can pair it with your favourite jeans to dress it down.

Fur can be bulky. Make sure the rest of your ensemble fits close to your body to avoid looking bigger than you are. If you’re heavier on top, seek styles that aren’t too voluminous, as they’ll exaggerate your proportions.

If you like fur but wouldn’t dare to wear a complete fur item, the simplest option is a coat with a fur collar. The bigger, the better.
